Sam Noonan is an artist and social care worker with 10 years of experience operating in charity and HSE-funded services supporting neurodiverse children, adults and the elderly. These services are guided by person-centeredness, community inclusion, creative engagement, active citizenship and high-quality provision for people with Autism, Down Syndrome, and Intellectual Disabilities. In his art practices, Noonan explores conversations and connections in communities through poetry, music production, theatre and movement. Sam believes everyone has special needs and Ireland needs more social spaces for ‘Communicative Action,’ reflective practices and artistic exploration.
Noonan has published one poetry collection, a conversation between poetry and painting with Andrew Hopkins, and has published a short story in Cassandra Voices. He has also hosted a show on Dublin Digital Radio called The Literary Series for the last 5 years. He has co-facilitated a workshop for neurodivergent communities at Rua Red, creating an installation and a movement practice around the work. In 2024, Sam wrote, performed, and did the sound design for his recent play ‘Transitions’ at the Scene and Heard Festival at Smock Alley Theatre. He also performed with Quilombo Terra this year at the International Literature Festival as part of Little Amal (Walk with Amal).
Searching for an instrument of change–from poetry to the path of self discovery.
